I hope the read-through goes well. I’ve never attempted writing a story of more than about 2000 words so I am afraid any advice I offer would be like a tea-bag in the ocean…WEAK!

You’ll love it once you start! I got stumped with the ending of my nano novel. I decided to reread & see where the ms wanted to take me. It worked Good luck with it.

I think I will, Dawn. It sounds perfect. I hadn’t realized there were so many benefits to being a member – I’d been thinking it would help with my agent search once I finished. I just read someone’s recap of a talk at SCBWI about YA fantasy and there was a lot of information there that was helpful.

I’ll be haunting your blog regularly from now on too

I almost wrote (here and at my blog) to join ASAP, but I didn’t want to sound pushy! The SCBWI has so many experienced authors, editors, and agents who give wonderful advice at conferences, in their publications (whether it’s a regional blog, the Bulletin, or whatever), etc. Maybe that advice could help you with your latest manuscript before you finish. There are also lots of new people, the pre-published, so everyone fits in. I totally recommend it.

By the way, I accidentally commented under my legal name instead of my writing name (maiden name). Sorry if I confused you.

I have tried to expand a flash story before, though, and it doesn´t seem to work for me. But sometimes details or ideas from flash can be used in other contexts.

I will definitely be joining SCBWI – I’ve actually been wondering if I should even wait until I finish this manuscript. I feel a little trepidation about going to a writers conference but you make it sound like such fun!

I do have this tendency to decide a little too rigidly that I “should” do things a certain way, but I definitely need to jumpstart myself. “Keep trying” is probably the mantra I should be adopting!
