When It’s Hot Out …

It’s hot here today – 32° C (which an online conversion site tells me is the equivalent of 89.6° F). The humidity level (59%) makes it feel more like 40° (or about 104° F).

When it’s hot and muggy like today, all I feel like doing is … nothing!

Yes, it’s the kind of day where I want to (a) stay inside, where it’s nice and cool and (b) drink a lot of A&W root beer.

Not only that, I feel a lot of lovely, lazing around energy (because lazing around has its own kind of low hum of energy). It’s a really good thing I just finished a deadline and my next one isn’t until next week.

Because I just might close my eyes and nap the afternoon away. It’s that kind of a hot, muggy day, you see.

In an interesting study of opposites, my husband, on the other hand, thrives in this kind of weather. You could say his energy levels are sky rocketing, plain popping off the charts.

Case in point: right now (and yesterday, too, when it was nearly as hot) he’s outside emptying the shed.

He’s hot and sweaty, working hard, moving things around … and loving every moment of it. He’s got music blasting from the iPod dock, loads of bags filled with stuff to be given away, and he’s feeling very, very productive.

It’s just too weird for me. So I’m going to keep on lounging while he enjoys his version of fun.

(He just came in to change his work gloves for a drier pair …)

What about you? How does hot weather affect you? Do you just want to lounge around, like me, or do you feel really energized, like my husband?

Oh, the heat absolutely is not my friend. I can’t nap, though, so I turn on the AC and hope that it lives on for another day.

I do know many people who, not unlike your husband, come alive with energy and happiness when it’s very hot.

I believe they must have been orchids in another life!

Yay to autumn!

“I believe they must have been orchids in another life!” – this made me laugh. I like that image of my husband as an orchid. Makes sense to me.

Yes, autumn is my favorite season too. Followed very very closely by spring!

Oh goodness. I hate this weather. We are on the East Coast in the US. I just got home from picking my son up from camp. The car thermometer said it was 101 F outside. Yesterday it hit 105. People are losing power and I heard of one fatality. Hate it. It’s miserable and it gives me a headache.

Both of my sons seem to hate it too. My husband’s favorite season is summer, and he’s from Ireland. I cannot figure out why he enjoys this torture.

That’s so funny. I always think of Ireland as so green and cool!

It is. And it rains a lot. This is why I find it hard to believe that after living there for the first 27 years of his life, he actually likes summer in NJ. It is brutal to me. I want Irish summers and I’m from NJ. He wants NJ summers and he’s from Ireland.

I definitely don’t like the hot weather! My husband doesn’t seem to notice it at all. I feel very thankful we have air conditioning, and I am so sorry for those who don’t – it must be just awful now for them!

Last year around this time our old AC died on us, and we had a few very, very uncomfortable days before the AC guys could come out and set us up with a new one. I love air conditioning!

I could have written this post about my hubby and me. He’s outisde in this hideous humid heat working in the garage and the shed – cleaning, organizing, fixing… Me? I’m in the darkened living room with a glass of water & lemon slices checking out blogs and working on the query :)

Yes, switch out the water with lemon for a very cold root beer and that’s definitely the scene around here, too!

Our summer’s are always hot and muggy and I have to admit to a fondness for the heat.

I love reading or writing quietly in a shady corner, surrounded by cool drinks so I know I won´t have to get up until the temperature drops. But my husband is like yours; he loves taking a trip on his bike, coming back all sweaty.

Sign me up for lounging around, if only there’s wasn’t so much work to do.

Like Trina, we’re dealing with scorching temperatures here on the East Coast (the dashboard of my car had the temp at 107 yesterday!) and even though I am in the A/C, I have zero energy. None. It makes no sense because I’m inside a cool house, but I’m blaming my laziness on the heat anyway.

I’m all about lounging in the shade with a good book with that kind of heat.

I hope you cool off soon!

In northeast PA we’ve had 5 straight days of 90s and high humidity and we don’t have air conditioning. Normally we don’t need it because we live out in the country and nearly always have a breeze. However, this is the first day we’ve had a breeze in this heat wave so it has been absolutely brutal. I have COPD and can’t breathe well in this humidity, so I’m about as unproductive as a person can get. They say thunderstorms start this afternoon. Oh I hope so. I’d check into a motel but I don’t have the oomph to pack.

I can’t stand the cold, so I’m always glad when summer rolls around. But the hot hot heat in Georgia is sooo oppressive. It’s glasses-steaming-up, multiple-showers, dying-for-some-water heat. Irish summers sound awesome right now.

I am not a fan of the heat and humidity. Maybe if we had central air I wouldn’t hate it so much but we have window ACs and I’m always turning them on and off and worrying about the electricity. I do like to go in the pool on hot days though!
