A Rambly Random Wednesday

by Belle Wong on March 3, 2010

I’m feeling rather random-ly today, so of course, it means another post of random stuff! Here are the random things that have been delighting me:

Dream analysis. My older son has been getting university acceptances and a few scholarship offers, as well as several phone calls from the universities he’s applied to, so we’ve had lots of celebratory-feeling days around here.

Last night, I dreamed he cooked up a whole batch of bacon – it was crisp and perfectly done. I’ve never really been big on dream analysis, but this one just jumps out at me. Yes! He is going to be successful, bringing home the bacon!

A Clean Desk. I did it. I finally got around to cleaning up my desk. I took a picture, since it’s a rare event and I like to record things like this for future reference (and to remind a certain husband that I can occasionally be tidy).

And this should give you an idea how I did it – I call it the “everything-in-the-box” method (note: patent pending).

Writing. I started my first readthrough of my WIP, NANTUCKET, last night and I’m very happy to say that this readthrough is going so much better than the readthrough I did of my NaNoWriMo novel last month. No, it’s not perfect, but there’s stuff I can work on, and the story (so far) is shaping up quite well. (Please feel free to cheer …)

Reading. I finished The Book of Tomorrow by Cecelia Ahern and have one burning question (don’t worry, not a spoiler):

Did Rosaleen know about the book, or not? If you’ve read the book and have more of a clue about this than I do, please let me know!

Lust Speaking of Husbands. As most of you know, my husband is a martial arts teacher. Now that we have a little dojo in our home, he holds the occasional private class here.

What this means is that I’m now getting to see him in his black belt uniform again (I hadn’t seen him in his dogi for quite a while, because I rarely make it out to dojo functions these days).

I’d forgotten I have a tendency to swoon when I see him in his karate dogi. Oddly enough, it’s not the same for me when he’s wearing his aikido uniform or his jodo uniform.

I guess it’s a good thing to be swooning over one’s own husband.

Blog Stuff. I’m hoping to be able to start working on a new look for Ms. Bookish next week, so if you see funny things happening around here, you’ll know why. The dilemma right now is picking a new template. There are just so many – it’s tough to choose just one. I guess it would be too confusing to use several at once!

Exercise. I’ve decided exercise is no longer going to be a dreaded word for me. It helps that I found a picture of me taken not so long ago where I looked decidedly more svelte than I do now. The reminder that it wasn’t that long ago was a good one.

So, treadmill, you and I are going to begin our love affair, starting today tomorrow Friday. I promise!

That’s my random stuff for today. Every now and then, I love a day of random. What random stuff have you been delighting in recently?

I am cheering! Hope you can hear me. Yay for Nantucket!

And I am laughing:

“So, treadmill, you and I are going to begin our love affair, starting today tomorrow Friday. I promise!” I should have said something like that, but this summer …

And as you know, I have been delighting in my first, tiny success as a writer this week.

I was so happy to hear of your flash fiction sale, Dorte! It’s the beginning of something very good.

A quick update – I did go on the treadmill on Friday! But here it is Monday and I haven’t gone back on …

That can’t possibly be that same guy who cooks! :–) (too much in one package = unfair distribution!) :–)

Interesting how far away your screen is from your seat; you must be far-sighted. I have to be breathing all over my screen!

I love your box, and have some of my own! (It takes me three wine boxes to be able to dust my desk. Now I know you’ll come back and say, Oh, you have to plow through 3 cases of wine to clean?!!! No, 3 empties! But the wine would help, now that you almost mention it!)

I could easily see how three cases of wine would come in handy, Jill.

I’m actually near-sighted, but I have one of those wide screen monitors. Also, the desk is kind of large and I just know if I put the monitor closer to me, I’d just end up with a bunch of stuff BEHIND it!

I cleaned my desk this week too – Spring must be in the air to bring out the cleaning in us! Don’t worry your everything in a box method is safe from me – I prefer to put everything in a drawer!

A whole latte good random things going on over here! I’ve been editing too, as well as noticing robins outside my window, a sure sign Spring is on its way :) Happy Spring Cleaning to you!

Congrats on getting the desk cleaned up! You know, that box that you’ll tuck away in some forgotten corner has a very important thing that you will need 6 months from now. Oh wait, that’s my life, not yours :)

That’s my biggest fear, Janel! Did I tell you we recently “lost” a library book during the most recent bout of decluttering? Luckily, my husband spent some time going through (yet another) box with everything in it and found it!

I’m cheering!!! Glad the reading of NANTUCKET is going well. Glad the desk is clean, although it’s kind of a never-ending proposition, isn’t it.

Let’s have a big round of applause for Nantucket!!!! (insert “roaring crowd”).

I am unsure how I feel about the desk-clean-up. I know it is none of my business being that it’s not my house, my office or my desk but it just seems so, I don’t know, drastic. Kinda of like killing a living thing which is healthy and content with its own existence. Besides, I feel a clean desk is for people who are too lazy to look for things. My stance and I am sticking with it.

Now, for a message from your friendly neighbourhood, hypocrite…I found a large grey thing in my studio today. It was covered in 6″ of PACKED woodshavings. I believe in some cultures it is called a “floor”. Not sure how long it will be there but I doubt it will be for long.

Oh, and I am not going anywhere near the topic of Sensei in his dogi! “Swooning?” Only if I zig when I ought to zag. :)

“Everything-in-the-box”? That’s I clean out my van except it is “everything-in-the-dumpster”.

Sunshine and happiness!

Congrats on the desk–it looks great. The patent pending comment cracked me up. ;) Yay about your son (that’s huge), and good for you, feeling inspired to exercise. I was just telling my hubby I’ve been an exercise flake this week and I need to fix that. I’ll be starting in again Friday, too! :)

Your husband’s dojo looks calm and peaceful even in the picture.

I had to laugh at the patented “everything in a box” thing since we have the patented “everything in the closet” thing going on here. I think your method is even tidier. ;-)

So many things are in order for you: Congratulations, LOL!, OMG, etc.

First, I’m so happy to hear about your son’s acceptances and that you’re swooning over your husband (LOL).

And OMG, NANTUCKET…I remember NAN. Glad to see you’re working on it again, but I’ll admit, I’m anxious about WAVERLY…how’s that one going?

As for the blog, which direction do you think you’ll go? I’m planning a redesign of TIR soon and I’m creativity-blocked. ^_^

I’ve been anxious about WAVERLEY too :( But the good news is that my recent weekend of reading really helped me out, and I think I’ll be back on track with it.

Right now I’m thinking about either Thesis or else a Woo Themes theme … I’m not too sure. The header design is the big thing, though, and I don’t have any idea what I want!

Also forgot to ask…is the “everything-in-the-box” method a variation of the “everything-under-the-bed” or “everything-in-the-closet” method? :D
