PJs Rule!

by Belle on January 6, 2010

I’ve been working from home for fifteen years now, and amazingly enough, until one cold morning last month, I had never worked in my pajamas.

I’m not really a very traditional sort of person, so I’m not sure why I never thought about working in my PJs before then.

And the fact that it happened was actually quite a fluke: I had a gazillion and one things on the go that morning, one thing lead to another, and before I knew it, I’d been at my desk for a few hours, still in my lovely, comfortable flannel pajamas.

Now I’m hooked.

It’s been a very busy two weeks for me as I work my way through this current clump of deadlines – and most days have found me in my office, working in my PJs.

And of course, as I type this, I’m in my PJs.

It’s so comfortable. And I’m probably even more productive, simply because it is so very comfortable.

What about you? If you work from home, or if you were working from home, what are your thoughts about working in your PJs?

I say comfort rules! I put on my pj’s as soon as I can every night.

LOL! My DH got home from work at lunch time today and just shook his head at my bed head and jammie clad body.

In my defense, I had been doing a serious read-through of a “final” edit project. It wouldn’t have been right to read any other book in my street clothes, so why not my own?!?!?

Comfort all the way!

People say you should dress for work whether you are at home or going into a proper office…I say…HOGWASH…enjoy your PJ’s. I love the decadent feeling I have when I am working at home in my comfy pajamas…sure beats my dress up outfit I have on today as I sit here in my office cubicle!

I’m more of a sweatpants kind of gal, although my husband has accused me of not showering since I decided to stay in my pajama pants all day! My daughter has some awesome pj’s. Too bad we’re not the same size!

I’m not a pj’s kind of guy but I am pretty serious about a very ratty pair of track pants. I’ve had them for about 6 years and they border on obscene. They are not fit for public viewing but they work well enough in my shop…as long as I scoop the wood shavings out of the pockets every now and again. :)

For those of you that have a connection to pj’s, whether it be culturally, religiously, politically, or cosmically, I say go for it. One of the best things about working from home is the right to wear whatever you want. And if they make you more productive, all the better.

I work from home 2-3 days/week, but immediately after my writing time, I work out, so don’t really like to hang out in sweaty clothes. (That’s not to say it hasn’t happened when I got caught up in something.)

NOOOOOOO! While I love the ease of getting out of bed and straight to my desk, if I stayed in my dressing-gown I’d never get to enjoy most of my wardrobe! I have a huge range of indoor high-heels, tight skirts, funky t-shirts, jeans. And I need excuses to keep adding to the collection!

I’ve been working from home for just three months now, so I’m still figuring it out. The first couple weeks, I got up, showered, and dressed just like I had to go to an external workplace. Okay, I dressed in jeans and kept my slippers on, but still.

Then I decided to try something else, so I did the PJs thing, but that’s what I do on Sundays, and I just never felt like I woke up all the way. Plus, I felt silly showering and then getting back into my PJs for work.

Lately, I’ve been hanging in my jammies until mid-morning, then I take a shower break and pull the jeans on. The slippers are staying, too….and I’m embarrassed to say it, but I’ve even abandoned my home office in favor of the couch these last few weeks. And it’s niiiiiice.

WHAT?!? 15 years and you never once worked in your pajamas?!? I am SHOCKED! I am barely home for more than a minute before I am all pajamaed up. Or rather, in sweats and a sweatshirt.
There are days when I get to stay at home all day that I don’t change until I go to bed at night and feel like I need to change pajamas.
What a great discover for you!

I find myself still in my jammies past noon several times. I suffer from tunnel vision, and once I start working on a project, I just keep plugging away until it is done (usually lesson plans or grading). I think the ability to work when you want – not bound by dress code or other such burdens – makes life more productive :)

I don’t get to show up at work in my pjs :(

On weekends I’m more of a sweats person. I shower as soon as I wake up so I can get the contacts in and see stuff. Then I’m good to go!

I’d wear PJs 24/7 if I could! And these days it’s almost to the point where pajamas are completely socially acceptable casual wear for anything except maybe working in an office. I’ve noticed while shopping that many boutiques and even bigger department stores like Old Navy, Abercrombie & Fitch, American Eagle has sections especially for pj-style casuals. Personally I am loving this! I wear them around the house/yard, grocery shopping, walking the dog … haven’t worn them to school yet though :P

It’s my goal to work in my jammies. Or better yet, not work, and stay in my jammies all day!

I only work from home occasionally but when I do I often stay in my PJs – especially in winter. There’s nothing better.

I once came to the office in my PJs (it was some kind of theme dress up day but I can’t recall what the PJs were supposed to signify) and I adored that too.

Basically I could live in PJs

I wear sleep shirts to sleep, so wouldn’t quite be appropriate – but I wear sweats around the house unless I am going out somewhere!

I wear sweats just in case someone comes to the door, but my slippers hardly ever leave my feet. I’m more productive if I’m comfortable, but the bad part is that it’s too easy to eat too much with all that room in my pants.

Unfortunately, I work at an office and they would frown upon pjs at work. But if I worked from home, I would never get dressed. I put my pajamas on as soon as I walk in the door in the evening.

So glad to see a post from you. I figured you were working but I was starting to wonder. Also glad you discovered a new freedom that makes you feel so good plus is more productive. During my work-for-money days I never had the luxury of working from home. It was always dress code and that usually meant dresses or suits (not pant suits until the last few years). Soft jeans (the older the better) and baggy shirts are my casual clothing choice.

LOL!

My PJ is too cold for this house. Warm jeans, socks and sweaters are the thing, but I don´t worry about how I look on days when I work from home.

I too am shocked it took you 15 years to try this! So glad you found out how good it is! I’m glad you asked the questions ….it was very interesting to read the responses. For me somedays the lap top comes to the bedroom and I work right there…PJs on and the dog curled up right beside me!

When I am on a zillion deadlines I love it. Otherwise, I don’t — because then I have a tendency to not want to leave the house, so errands and shopping do not get done. But yeah, sweats definitely have their place.
