Pinning My TBR (And Other Fun Bookish Ways to Use Pinterest)

by Belle Wong on January 23, 2012

I fell in love with Pinterest a few months ago, and have been madly pinning away ever since. In addition to lots of other, non-bookish things, I have a board called Bookish Things where I pin all the awesome bookish stuff that delights my little bibliophile heart.

But recently, I’ve discovered a few more fun bookish ways to use Pinterest. My favourite so far? Pinning my TBR!

Check out my board, The Ever-expanding TBR Pile. Isn’t it a great little bookish board? What I love is being able to see my to-read list visually. It’s SO beautiful!

And best of all, I pin a lot of books directly from my favourite book bloggers’ review posts – this means when I write about the books I’m reading or have read, I can link directly to those who are to blame for adding to my TBR pile the reviews which persuaded me to add the book to my to-read list. I’ve tried many ways in the past to keep track of who recommended what, as I like to give credit where credit is due; pinning my TBR pile does this fabulously for me.

I also have a Pinterest board for books read (or currently reading) in 2012. It’s on the sparse side right now, but just being able to pin a book on my board once I’m done is proving to be very motivating when it comes to my reading goal.

And just yesterday, I started boards for Rave-Worthy Reads and Comfort Reads. I’ve only pinned a few books so far, but it’s been fun thinking about what books I’ve loved in the past few years, and what books qualify as comfort reads for me.

Bottom line? I think Pinterest is such a great way to spread the news about great books!

What about you? Do you use Pinterest for bookish pinning?

I signed up for Pinterest a while ago, messed around for a little while and forgot about it. After reading someone else’s post, I went back yesterday and tried to pin some of my reviews and couldn’t figure out how to get the graphics I wanted to show up. I’m a Pinterest failure!

Are you using the Pinterest bookmarklet, Kathy? It’s been working quite well for me. (I also added a pin it button to my posts – feel free to try it and see if images show up for you to select – it works the same way the Pinterest bookmarklet works).

Very good idea to pin book reviews! I often forget how I got interested in a book. Maybe I’ll start a board like that too!

I got a Kobo Vox for Christmas and was dismayed to find that the Kobo store doesn’t have a wishlist function. Enter Pinterest: I’ve been using it to compile a visual wishlist for my Kobo. I love that Pinterest lets me see all the covers laid out in a grid, and their pricing tool was a nice surprise. It makes it super easy to decide what to buy next.

I’ve also been keeping track of books to check out. Like you, I love that I can link directly to the review that made me add the book to my list in the first place.

I love the idea of adding the price for books I intend to buy!

I’ve been using Pinterest largely to indulge in non-bookish things, but I am starting to do more of the bookwormy. Thanks for the inspiration! I’m following all your boards and love ‘em!

I can’t believe how much fun I’m having with Pinterest, Andi. I like to check it out in the morning, and it’s kind of like reading a very colourful magazine with my morning coffee!

What a nice, positive way to look at your TBR. I am doing my best to eradicate mine, but not too successfully.

I haven’t got a pininterest account but I use evernote in the same way as you seem to be using pininterest – easy to clip book reviews from wherever I see them – and regardless if I am at work, on my phone, home computer – all go to the one place – these days I tend not to even go looking for a book unless I’ve clipped 2 or more reviews of it – that’s one way to keep my TBR under some semblence of control :)

What a terrific idea! I have posted almost every creative outlet I can think of to Pinterest – but I have not used it for bookish things. I love the idea that I can instantly link back to the site where I first discovered the book.

Ok – off to create another board….

I think this is an excellent idea! I haven’t used Pinterest in a few months now but I did use it to pin books I recommend. I think if I look at your board, I’m going to add more books to my tbr list. :-)

I’m on pinterest, but I don’t use it for anything book-ish. Mainly I pin art and pictures of octopi, haha. I can see where the TBR list would be useful, but I use GoodReads for that at moment (ineffectively :P ).

I signed up for pinterest and pinned three things. Then just forgot about it. I have more online things than I have time for as it is. Maybe I’ll get back to it.

I actually haven’t been doing anything bookish with pinterest, but I do like the ideas of pinning the reviews of books that make you want to read them.

That was so much fun to look at. I’m not on fb or pinterest but I love it that I can still see people’s pinnings. I use Good Reads for my ‘to read’ list, along with folders in my email.
